You couldn't leave well enough alone, could you?

Today in Wal-mart I overheard a mother tell her son “You couldn’t leave well enough alone, could you?” I don’t know what the child did, but my first thought was why? OK, maybe ‘well enough’ is good enough for some of us. If cars that didn’t get more than 20 miles to the gallon were good enough in the 60 and 70’s, why do better? Why build a space shuttle when the Apollo spaceships were good enough to make it to the moon? Why build computers smaller than the size of my bathroom, much less small enough to fit in the palm of my hand? The technology of the first three Star Wars movies was as amazing as it needs to get. To heck with wireless technology, who needs it anyway; and 3 black and white TV stations were good enough for us when we were growing up. But fortuantely we are a society that has been told “You can do better”, “Go for the gusto”, and so on and so on. And then to contradict ourselves with leaving well enough alone….
So what has this to do with our adoption? I hope we are parents that tell our kids “Why leave well enough alone”, be creative, GO FOR IT; unless of course you’re the person that decided Coke ‘classic’ wasn’t good enough.
